Visualizing and Verbalizing® and Seeing Stars® Programs Re-Endorsed by Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE)

The Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) has officially re-endorsed Gander Publishing’s Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking® and Seeing Stars® programs.

CASE is an international professional education organization affiliated with the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), whose members are dedicated to the enhancement of the worth, dignity, and uniqueness of each individual in society.

The endorsements came after thorough review by members of CASE’s Product Review Committee—a group of leaders in special education who review and endorse a variety of research-based products designed to improve student outcomes. Both Visualizing and Verbalizing and Seeing Stars met all of the components for the CASE re-endorsement process and, therefore, carry an official CASE endorsement for the next three years.

“The Product Review Committee of CASE continues to be impressed with the ongoing track record of Gander Publishing and Lindamood-Bell for providing evidence-based programs in support of struggling readers with disabilities, including Dyslexia,” said Dr. Pamela Baker, Chair of the Product Review Committee.

Lindamood-Bell is an international organization dedicated to helping all individuals learn to their potential.  It provides interventions and professional development to increase  literacy for struggling readers, including students with disabilities such as dyslexia and autism.

The Visualizing and Verbalizing (V/V®) program develops concept imagery—the ability to create an imagined gestalt from language—as a basis for comprehension and higher order thinking.  The Seeing Stars program develops symbol imagery as a basis for phonological and orthographic awareness, word attack, word recognition, spelling, and contextual reading fluency.

Upon review of both products, Baker noted that “there is compelling evidence of significant improvement among a variety of learners when these products are implemented with fidelity.”

Baker also commented that the committee appreciated the new teacher training options available through Lindamood-Bell for Schools. “Online professional development workshops via live, videoconferencing provide quality remote training at reduced costs for districts by eliminating the need for travel. More than 90% of workshop participants reported the information to be useful.” She added that “in these times of uncertainty, both efficacy and affordability are important to school districts.”
