The Talkies Kit provides theory, tools, and specific steps to implement Nanci Bell and Christy Bonetti's Talkies program. Talkies is the primer to the acclaimed Visualizing and Verbalizing® program for students who need simpler, smaller steps of instruction to establish the connection between language and mental imagery.
The Talkies program aligns with a theory of cognition, Dual Coding Theory, and through sequential steps brings the nonverbal code of imagery to consciousness. The goal is to engage the individual to consciously create and access mental representations and stimulate his or her awareness of the imagery-language connection. Talkies is not intended to diagnose or be an exclusive treatment for speech-language pathology and audiology disorders.
Talkies instruction may benefit students with prior third-party diagnoses of expressive language delays or autism spectrum disorders.
The Picturing Vocabulary! Book helps build oral vocabulary, an important component in language communication, by stimulating and developing the imagery-language connection. Students can image and learn over 400 pictures, each representing a common noun or verb.
Toys - A selection of toys including farm and wild animals, plus a plastic ball (toy selection subject to change). Use toys for sensory-language play, object imagery, vocabulary development, and speaking in sentences.
