Last month, Gander Publishing had the honor of sponsoring Operation Surf’s “Amazing Surf Adventures.” The weeklong event, held every October at beaches across the Central Coast, serves as a tribute to military men and women who have sacrificed to protect our country’s freedom.

Throughout the week, wounded active-duty and veteran service members from various branches of the US military take part in epic, life-changing experiences in and out of the water. Participants are exposed to the healing power of the ocean through adaptive surfing taught by world-class instructors.

The all-inclusive event is designed to provide an environment where participants are supported and encouraged to overcome perceived limitations connected to their physical and psychological disabilities.

Participants receive meals, hotel accommodations, travel assistance, clinical and medical support, and all  other resources needed. Operation Surf works to instill help, hope, and confidence in the water, on the surfboard, and in the daily lives of these brave men and women. Operation Surf is funded through financial and in-kind contributions from sponsors and donors throughout our community and beyond.
