Opening doors to the communicating world

Opening doors to the communicating world

I just had my update with Gus's parents. They were so happy and had a lot of great things to say about Gus's progress at home.

A few months ago, they had to clap their hands and say his name repeatedly to get his attention; now, they just have to say his name once normally and he listens to them very attentively.

He did not have much spontaneous language; when he had to communicate, he would always try to convey information in gestures or one word responses. Gus now has so much more spontaneous language. He speaks in full sentences or fairly complete phrases more often.

Gus is even initiating exchanges with people on the street! He has said ‘hi’ to neighbors and policemen and asked how they are. He never initiated conversations; he has always needed to respond to someone's questions. Even then, he would repeat what they would ask.
